Multiple people were injured after a multi-vehicle crash in the drive-thru of the Auburn Burger King on Thursday night.
Two vehicles sitting in the drive-thru lane, as well as one other vehicle in the area, were struck by 18-year-old Asad Mohamed of Lewiston at around 7:15 p.m., according to the Auburn Police Department.
Mohamed had been southbound on 333 Center St. when he struck a vehicle, driven by 32-year-old Matthew Barrington of Brunswick, leaving a parking lot near the Burger King. . Mohamed’s vehicle flew into the air, and then struck a vehicle driven by Gary Girard, 61, of Poland, who had been sitting in the Burger King drive-thru line, officials said.
Mohamed’s vehicle also struck another vehicle in the drive-thru line, driven by 37-year-old Nathaniel Simmers of Auburn.
Several people were transported to a local hospital, although they were not identified on Friday afternoon.
Although officials believe that speed was a contributing factor, the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
