It seems like Republican members of Congress and Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy only care about the wealthy and the military contractors, many of whom donate to their campaigns. If you are a working person, or middle class, or low income, this “debt crisis” could make you much worse off.

Republicans want big cuts to programs that help most of us — food benefits, health care, renewable energy, debt relief, affordable housing, any program that could benefit the bottom 95 percent. Medicare and Social Security  might be impacted too. But the Pentagon and tax increases for the rich are off the table, even though more income and budget cuts there would be the least painful for almost everyone. Republicans even want to cut IRS funding, apparently since it could collect more taxes from wealthy people who under report their income.

This debt crisis is nothing but a cruel attack on the middle and working classes of this country, and Republicans seem willing to take our nation down the road of economic ruin to do that. I’m no Democrat, but I hope President Joe Biden and Democrats don’t let them get away with it.

Whose side are the Republicans on? I’m sure it’s not on the side of the US of A.
