Mason’s Brewing Co. is expanding to Down East Maine.
Mason’s Brewing has purchased the building at 78 Main St. in Machias, the current location of Bluebird Ranch Family Restaurant, according to the business’ owner and operator, Bethany Prout Foss, who announced the sale Tuesday morning.
“After careful consideration, we feel that Mason’s will be a tremendous asset to the community we all love,” said Foss, who has run the restaurant with her mother Hope Prout.
“Mason’s is humbled and honored for the opportunity to carry on this tradition in Machias, while bringing our unique style of terrific craft beer, imaginative food, and top quality service to the downeast region of Maine,” Mason’s owner Chris Morley said.

Bluebird Ranch Family Restaurant has been in business for more than 25 years. The Prout family purchased the former Graham’s Restaurant in February 1996 and later changed the name to Bluebird Ranch Family Restaurant, according to its website.
“It was a dream come true to start the Bluebird Ranch Family Restaurant along with my mother, Hope Prout, in 1996! We had two equally important goals: one, to serve our customers well, the second, to support our community. We believe we accomplished both,” Foss said.
The restaurant’s last day in business is Oct. 1, and anyone with a gift card can use or redeem it for cash by that date.
Mason’s has been operating on the banks of the Penobscot River in Brewer since 2016. This expansion comes on the heels of its announcement in August 2022 that it will open a second location on Main Street in Auburn.
It’s not yet clear when Mason’s will complete its Down East expansion.
