An Illinois man accused of making death threats to Maine officials pleaded guilty on Monday in federal court in Bangor to making threatening interstate communications.

Massimo Frangella, 24, sent seven identical emails to Maine public officials from his email account with “You’re going to die” in the subject line, according to a court document written by federal prosecutors.

In the body of the emails, Frangella allegedly wrote: “I’m going to kill you and all of your child raping friends.”

Frangella was living with his parents in Illinois, according to the prosecutors’ account. When interviewed by the FBI, he allegedly said he didn’t know any of the Maine officials, had never been to Maine and had no plans to travel there.

He faces up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release.
