The third-seeded Hampden Academy Broncos co-operative boys hockey team and top seed Messalonskee High School from Oakland will square off for the Class B North championship at Alfond Arena in Orono beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
It will be the third time they have met this season and each has a one-goal win at home.
The Broncos triumphed 2-1 on Jan. 6 and Messalonskee earned a 4-3 victory on Feb. 14.
Hampden Academy shares the coop team with Nokomis of Newport, Mount Desert Island and Ellsworth.
The two teams each earned one-goal victories in the semifinals as Hampden Academy edged the Cony of Augusta co-op team 4-3 in double overtime while Messalonskee edged defending regional champ John Bapst of Bangor 1-0.
Messalonskee received a goal from senior Alex Beckwith off a tip-in of a Peyton Henning shot to subdue the Crusaders. It was Beckwith’s 24th goal of the campaign.
Junior goalie Nathan Kirk stopped 12 shots to post the shutout.
Denny Martin, senior son of head coach Dennis Martin, anchors the defense corps for the Eagles.
Hampden Academy had to rally for its victory over Cony.
Junior Aiden MacFarline’s goal with 5:06 remaining in regulation forced the overtime. It came just 41 seconds after Chase Callahan had broken a 2-2 tie for Cony.
Junior Brody Miller won it with a goal just 23 seconds into the second overtime.
Miller, MacFarline, sophomore Wyatt Allen and freshman Henry Armell each had a goal and an assist for coach Zach Wilson’s Broncos and senior Aiden Surran stopped 21 shots.
The Broncos beat the Presque Isle coop team 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
