An Ellsworth man has been indicted by a Hancock County grand jury for leading police on a chase in February.
Skylar Hughes, 29, is facing charges of eluding an officer, criminal operation of a vehicle under the influence, criminal speed, driving to endanger, domestic violence assault, obstructing report of crime or injury, criminal mischief and refusing to submit to arrest.
Each of the offenses are misdemeanors except for eluding an officer, which is a Class C felony.
He was being held Wednesday at the Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth.
The grand jury’s April 9 indictment stems from a police pursuit that involved Ellsworth, Bar Harbor and Mount Desert police officers in the early morning hours of Feb. 9. Hughes, who was wanted for an alleged domestic violence assault, fled by car and later on foot. He was apprehended on Mount Desert Island, according to the Bar Harbor Story.
In an April 11 Facebook post, Hughes wrote that he has “serious problems” and was in custody getting medical treatment at a Bangor hospital.
Hancock County District Attorney Robert Granger did not immediately respond to inquiries from the Bangor Daily News about Hughes’ release timeline.
Jacob Ferm, Hughes’ attorney, declined to comment when reached by the Bangor Daily News.
Correction: A previous version of this story inaccurately reported that Hughes had been re-arrested this week on charges similar to what he was indicted for last week. Hughes was not re-arrested and is not facing new charges since his February arrest, but was re-booked into Hancock County Jail on Tuesday, April 14 after getting treatment at a Bangor hospital.
