The city of Bangor has appointed an acting fire chief after the previous department leader unexpectedly resigned.
Deputy Fire Chief Eric Pelletier will serve as acting chief, city spokesperson David Warren said Friday. Pelletier has served as deputy chief since 2018, according to the department.
Pelletier will assume the position after the abrupt departure of Fire Chief Geoffrey Low, who resigned in the middle of a three-year contract. Low cited “organizational challenges” that would be better for someone other than Low to manage as his reasons for leaving.
Bangor received Low’s written resignation on Friday afternoon, Warren said.
The Bangor Daily News first reported Low’s resignation Friday morning, at which time Low said he submitted his resignation on Thursday.
The city declined to comment further. Low could not be reached for comment.
