It’s unclear whether Bangor will repaint the Pride flag on a downtown street after it was defaced for the second time in two days.
City spokesperson David Warren declined to comment Friday when asked if the city planned to continue repainting the flag.
Public works staff fixed the display on Tuesday, the day after it was defaced the first time. But the new series of tire marks made Wednesday night remained as of Friday afternoon.
The flag is painted near a crosswalk on Hammond Street every year to commemorate LGBTQ+ Pride month in June. It stretches across the street near where three teenagers killed Charlie Howard in 1984 for being openly gay.
This year’s Pride parade and festival is planned for June 27.
