Firefighter Katie Paige, one of several firefighters injured when a fire and explosion occurred May 15 at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont, was released from a Portland hospital on Friday.
Paige was greeted on her release and traveled first to Augusta, and then over Route 3 to the Belmont Fire Station.
Her husband Paul posted the announcement yesterday on Facebook, inviting friends and supporters to join the convoy and line Route 3, with an update today from the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
“Because of traffic and being a holiday weekend, transfer from Portland to Augusta Civic Center will be limited vehicles. From Augusta to Belmont will be picking up rest of convoy leaving Portland around noon,” Paige posted.
He asked that anyone wanting to be in the escort please meet at Civic Center around 12:45 p.m.
Seriously injured in the May 15 fire and explosion at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont, Paige was being treated in Maine Medical Center in Portland. She is a volunteer firefighter with the Belmont and Northport fire departments.
She is among a dozen people injured in the blaze, including three members of the Robbins family who are still hospitalized and two firefighters who suffered fatal injuries when a silo exploded after dust particles in the silo ignited during a fire.
Morrill firefighter Andrew Cross was killed in the immediate blast, while Searsmont Assistant Fire Chief Wayne Woodbury died of his injuries a month later.
