Most of the state will remain under a heat advisory, while also experiencing elevated levels of particle pollution.
Heat index values across central and eastern Maine are expected to reach between 95 and 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. High temperatures and humidity combine to create conditions for heat sickness, and it is advised to stay hydrated and limit working outside when possible.
That also combines with haze brought on by ongoing wildfires in Canada. The smog has been blowing down through the northwestern region, and an air quality warning has been issued for the entire state.
While the smoke haze isn’t at high enough levels to cause significant irritation for most people, older people, people with asthma and others that are sensitive to pollution will likely experience some discomfort.
Isolated thunderstorms may form throughout the afternoon, but significant rainfall is not expected.
While temperatures stay high today, Saturday’s high temperatures will be more moderate. The Bangor area should expect to see a sunny, mid-80 degree day for the Fourth of July Parade, which starts in Brewer at 10 a.m.
