Lil Wayne finally took the stage in Bangor Tuesday night, nearly a month after he skipped out on his originally scheduled show in the city.
“I apologize for the first time,” Lil Wayne told the crowd at the start of his performance, before promising to put on a good show.
The rapper was supposed to perform in Bangor on June 30 as the first stop on his 20 Years of Carter Classics tour, but he never showed. Instead, a DJ played for nearly two hours after opening act 2 Chainz until fans were told around 11 p.m. that Lil Wayne would not be coming on stage and that the show was over.
No explanation was ever given for why he ghosted his Bangor fans.
His local fans seemed willing to give him a second chance.
The Maine Savings Amphitheater was largely empty when the concert began at 7 p.m. French Montana and C-Dot 416 opened the show.
But the venue was nearly full by the time Lil Wayne came on stage at 9 p.m., though pockets of empty seats remained. Tickets from the June 30 show were honored at Tuesday’s rescheduled concert.
Lil Wayne’s mysterious absence became the hottest meme of the summer in Maine, with everyone from local businesses to fire departments posting AI-generated images of the rapper and humorous explanations for his no-show in Bangor.
Lil Wayne next performs at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater in St. Louis, Missouri, on July 30.
