A Maine man recently at the center of a mistrial for the 1986 killing of an 11-year-old girl in Connecticut has been sentenced on gun charges.
Marc Karun, formerly of Stetson, was sentenced on Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Bangor for being a felon in possession of firearms and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
The judge sentenced Karun, 61, to five years in prison followed by three years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty in February 2024, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Police allegedly found more than 60 guns and more than 14,000 rounds of ammunition while executing a search warrant at Karun’s Stetson home. One rifle had the serial number removed, the U.S. Attorney’s office said.
Karun was prohibited from possessing firearms by prior Connecticut felony convictions for sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, burglary and larceny.
Earlier this year, a judge declared a mistrial in a case in which Karun was charged with killing an 11-year-old girl in Norwalk, Connecticut, nearly 40 years ago after it was revealed her body may have been placed in a used body bag.
