A Harrington man allegedly set fire to a Down East home earlier this month.

Arthur Langley, 75, has been charged with arson and reckless conduct, according to Maj. Aaron Turcotte, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Langley allegedly set fire to the Main Street home in Harrington on July 17. Initially, investigators believed it was an outdoor fire that later spread to the home.

But, Turcotte said Wednesday morning, investigators determined the fire was incendiary.

Langley was arrested Tuesday in Columbia.

He was taken to the Washington County Jail in Machias, where he was being held without bail pending his initial court appearance.

The investigation is ongoing.
