A sex offender was allegedly camping in the woods in Brewer near children.
Christopher Benning, 40, was charged with a sex offender registry violation, according to the Brewer Police Department.
Benning, who is on the sex offender registry for disseminating and possessing sexually explicit material, allegedly had failed to update his residence information.
On the Maine Sex Offender Registry, Benning was listed as living in Bangor and working at Maine Geeks on Stillwater Avenue, which closed abruptly last month after the owner, 45-year-old Agasha Carvalho of Milford, was arrested for allegedly producing child sex abuse material.
Benning was found Friday camping in the woods off Dirigo Drive within 750 feet of children in violation of his probation, according to Brewer police.
He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor, where he remained early Wednesday afternoon, according to the jail’s website.
