I have lived in three houses in my 81 years, all within three blocks in Belfast. Currently, my lovely wife and I have occupied this house on Congress Street for 58 years, where we raised our two children. We now have five granddaughters who were all brought up within 18 miles of here. Four are currently in college and one is in middle school. I am in my 59th year of working in the infrastructure industry, the last 42 years as a professional engineer. I also had a 38-year side career in the Army National Guard.
Zach Schmesser and his young expanding family moved in next door to us eight years ago. Right off the bat we realized this was a good thing. In the months that followed I learned that this ambitious young family man is remarkable because of his experience, knowledge and perspective of local, state, and federal politics; his ability to listen and offer solutions to people’s problems; his willingness to help anyone in need; and his commitment to making Belfast an even better place, with fiscal conservatism.
There is no doubt in my mind that as Ward 2 councilman, Schmesser will be a truly great asset to the citizens and visitors of the City of Belfast.
