Sadly, as with the abrupt removal of George Hale last March from radio station WVOM‘s George Hale/Ric Tyler weekday morning show, some of the most interesting and informative Saturday morning call-in radio programs have been removed from the Bangor station’s lineup this summer, including Tom Gocze’s “Hot and Cold.” The station touts itself as being a news and information station but the programs that have been cut are just that — highly informative to the public! And they have been replaced with rewinds of weekly political talk.
Tom shared his tried-and-true knowledge about home repairs. On each show one could call in with concerns and receive practical, sensible and often amusing responses from the host’s expertise which was most helpful. Tom is local to the Bangor area and each Saturday he included talking with a representative from the Bangor Humane Society about animals up for adoption.
These wonderfully helpful shows have been replaced by weekly political talk shows that are reruns. The canceled shows were refreshing and are being seriously missed and the ability to call in and obtain practical, helpful answers to important questions was invaluable! I am relieved that Kim Commando’s “America’s Digital Goddess,” cut from Saturday morning, is still available on Sunday. However, bringing it and Gocze’s program back to Saturday mornings would be a big plus for the station and the people it serves.
It would surely get this listener back to listening to WVOM on Saturday mornings.
