In order to actually make change, city councilors often have to collaborate, compromise and build consensus across differences.
Many residents have complained in recent years about bickering on the Bangor City Council, as officials often struggle to make decisions efficiently. Most recently, the council nearly adopted a new homelessness program but couldn’t agree on how to fund it, so the proposal died.
The Bangor Daily News asked each of this year’s council candidates the following question: If elected, you will be one of nine votes on the Council. How do you plan to build consensus and secure the majority support needed to turn your proposals into policy?
