James G. Blaine, Hannibal Hamlin, Margaret Chase Smith, Edmund Muskie, George Mitchell, Bill Cohen and Susan Collins. These Republicans and Democrats have all served Maine and the United States in the U.S. Senate with honor and distinction. If you can’t imagine ever seeing the name Troy Jackson on this distinguished list, you must vote to reelect Sen. Susan Collins this Nov. 3.
I think a vote for Mr. Jackson is a vote for Mr. Irrelevant. He will essentially be No. 100 in the line of seniority. I believe he will be relegated to whatever insignificant committee assignment he is given. He will immediately drop Maine to near the bottom of the list for consideration for any federal funding.
Compare that to Collins who is chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, fifth in the line of seniority, and ranked multiple times as the most non-partisan member of the Senate. I believe those facts put Collins in the best position to deliver for Maine. Her long list of federal funding for important Maine projects proves that.
Please vote, but don’t let disdain for President Donald Trump overshadow your good sense for what you know to be true. I believe a vote for Jackson is a vote against Maine’s best interests. You will be electing someone with no seniority, no proven federal legislative successes, and, I believe, little possibility of effectively advocating for legislation benefiting Maine.
And Trump will continue to be president for the next two years. What will you have accomplished by voting for Troy Jackson? Respectfully, reelect Susan Collins.
