CARIBOU – Irene E. Lunney, 86, wife of the late Leigh Lunney, died Sept. 11, 2008, in Caribou. She was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Woodland, the daughter of the late Austin and Nettie (True) Knowlton. She was a graduate of Caribou High School and in 1947 married Leigh William Lunney. She was employed at Pratt and Whitney, Hartford Conn.; Potato Service, Presque Isle; and as a certified nurses aide at Caribou Nursing Home for many years, where she will be fondly remembered by many for her dedication to her job and her love of the people she cared for. Irene had a strong faith in her creator and a great love for family and friends. She loved animals and the outdoors, spending much time taking photographs of scenery and family members, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her loving son, Michael Lunney of Caribou, with whom she resided; two daughters and sons-in-law, Maureen and David Dalachinsky of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Patricia and David Collins of Caribou; three sisters, Alain Kennedy of Minnesota, Thelma Knowlton, and Janet Rossignol and her husband, Roland, all of Caribou; grandchildren, David Collins Jr. and his wife, Martina, of Caribou, William Collins of Yarmouth, Caron Silsby and her husband, Andrew, of Steep Falls and Angela Picozzi and her husband, Jeff, of North Attleboro, Mass.; special great-grandchildren, Catherine Collins of Augusta, Jessica and Alisha Collins of Caribou, Annemarie and Caitlin Ostlund, and Sammy and Danielle Picozzi, all of Massachusetts; sisters-in-law, Alice Gregory of Westfield, Juanita Knowlton of Caribou, Rita Knowlton of Texas, Arlene Knowlton of Michigan and Mable Lunney of Westfield; brother-in-law, Boyd Lunney and his wife, Dawn, of Cape Elizabeth; daughter-in-law, Kelly (Meacham) Lunney of Wade; many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lunney was predeceased by her husband, Leigh; son, Daniel; granddaughter, Carollee Ostlund; brothers, Edward, Arnold and Emery Knowlton; and sisters, Dorothy Kinney and Gretchen Knowlton.
