QUENTIN R. MERCHANT – BEALS ISLAND – Quentin R. Merchant, 60, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at his residence. A lifelong resident of Beals Island, he was born there April 8, 1948, the son of the late Ellery and Jessie (Beal) Merchant Sr. Mr. Merchant was educated in the Beals school system and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and received an honorable discharge for his service to his country. Quentin enjoyed digging worms and pedaling clams in Bar Harbor with his parents. He mostly enjoyed Truck Driving for O.W. and B.S. Look of Jonesport and Andy’s Seafood of Jonesport. Mr. Merchant loved playing horseshoes and following the Jonesport-Beals Royals basketball. He also followed the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He loved spending time with family and friends. Family members include his children, Adam Merchant “Fellas” and his wife, Andrea, of Beals, Stacie Alley “Doll Face” and companion, James Williams, both of Hancock, and Mason Merchant “Lil Man” and wife, Jessica, of Beals; their loving mother, Theresa Leighton of Grand View, Mo.; grandchildren, Camon, Cadon, Evan, Austin, Madison and Cheyenna; brothers, Ellery Merchant Jr. and wife, Joyce, of Addison; and sisters, Evelyn Alley, Susie Alley and Eunice Garnett, all of Beals. Quentin was also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sadly missed by many including close friends, Galen Alley, Wilton, Ned, Ed Merchant and Donald Garnett Jr. He was predeceased by his sisters, Josephine Merchant and Ella Alley; and brother, Reggie Merchant. He was also predeceased by a close friend, Leland Tibbetts. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at Beals Wesleyan Church, Elm Street, Beals Island, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday Burial will afterward at Sewall Field Cemetery, Beals Island.
