NEWBURG – Alberta B. Monta, 86, died March 9, 2005, at a Bangor healthcare facility after a long illness. She was born March 18, 1918, in Stetson, the daughter of Lester A. and Beatrice (Reed) Townsend. She was educated in Stetson and Milo schools. “Alberta was a very hard worker all of her life.” She worked at the New Franklin Laundry in Bangor for more than 20 years. She loved to work in her gardens. Alberta was a long time member of the Newburg Full Gospel Church. She is survived by three sisters, Grace Curtis of Exeter, Phyllis Gatcomb of Stetson, and Lois Reed of Carmel; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her first husband, Ronald Luce and her second husband John Monta; her brother, Lewis Townsend; sisters, Winifred Bradbury, Bertha Lord, Evelyn Cole and Goldie Young. Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at the Brown Funeral Home, 34 High St., Newport, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Al Worden, officiating.
