WINTERPORT – Nason Campbell Bean, 70, died March 9, 2005, after a brief illness. He was born July 27, 1934, in Jamaica Plain, Mass., to Harold and Dorrice (Campbell) Bean. Nason lived in Winterport since his childhood and graduated from Winterport High School. Subsequently he entered the U.S. Army and gained many memories from being stationed in Germany that he regularly shared with family and friends. He returned to Winterport where he married Joan (Spaulding) Bean, his spouse and best friend for the remaining 45 years of his life. He spent much of his early life working as an auto mechanic and at one time owned the Esso station in Winterport. He retired in 2000 after 22 years with L & I Atlantic of Bangor. His most enjoyable times were spent with family and friends. Nason enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, riding shotgun in the plow truck with his son and sharing a lot of good times around his pool. He will be remembered for his “Bean Burgers,” Dar Specials,” and his trademark call, “Hey, Hey, Hey.” He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan; children, Daniel and wife, Dianne, of Trabuco Canyon, Calif., Cynthia and husband, Michael Frey, of Dixmont; Harold and wife, Marcia, of Orrington; Nason Jr. and fianc?e, Barbara Huntley, of Winterport; Douglas and wife, Karen, of Hermon, Lisa and fianc?, Roger Preston, of Roque Bluffs; grandchildren, Aaron and Sarah Frey, Chad, Stacie, Erin, Victoria, Taylor-Rose, Merideth and Vanessa Bean, Paige and Kaiden Preston; and one great-grandson, Tyler Bean. He will be fondly remembered by his brother, Charles and wife, Shirley, of Manomet, Mass.; sisters, Kathleen and husband, John Babcock, of Manchester, N.H.; and Mildred Young of Derry, N.H.; brother-in-law, Edward and wife, Glenyce Spaulding of Frankfort; a special friend, William Hammond of Edinburg; many nieces and nephews. Nason was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Schwartz; and a special granddaughter, Laura Frey in 2002. A funeral service will be held 12 noon Saturday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden, with the Rev. Adam Soderberg, pastor of the East Orrington Congregational Church, officiating. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at 12 noon at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home. Spring interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Winterport Ambulance Association, P.O.
