HANCOCK – Alfred W. Pettegrow, 81 died Jan. 21, 2006, at his home in Hancock. He was born May 1, 1924, in Machiasport, the son of Warren B. and Marion (Trafton) Pettegrow. “I have had a wonderful life! I attended Machiasport schools and served in the U.S. Army. I worked on lobster wharves, I sold fish scales, I was a salesman, a boat builder, a fisherman and owned a business selling seafood, but my greatest achievement is my children. My marriage to Barbara West gave me four beautiful children, Malcolm, Wyman, Beverly and Anthony (Cubby). I am very proud of them and love them dearly. My six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren bring me great happiness. I remember when I was first married before my first child was born. I was told to “get with it” so that my name would carry on. I think I have done that and I am happy. After Barbara died, I met my English girl, Marion, at the Happy Crab in Southwest Harbor in 1979. We had a wonderful life together, working, hunting, four-wheeling, traveling and family fun. I am blessed. “God loves you” be happy and “thanks a million times.” A service of remembrance will be held 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at the Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Spring internment will be in the family lot in Larrabee. Friends who wish may make gifts in Alfred’s memory to Hospice of Hancock County, 14 McKenzie Ave., Ellsworth, ME 04605 or Acadia Wildlife Foundation, P.O. Box 207, Mount Desert, ME 04660.
