VERONA ISLAND – Dorothy G. Bowden, 80, died Aug. 6, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Jan. 25, 1925, in Bucksport, the daughter of Arthur E. and Dora F. (Billings) Gross. She graduated from Bucksport High School. Dorothy attended the Franklin St. United Methodist Church, Bucksport. In her early years, she worked as a telephone operator, and retired from the Bucksport School System after 23 years as a cook. Dorothy enjoyed her coffee time with the girls, knitting, crocheting, and was always up to try something new. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend who will be greatly missed by many. Dorothy is survived by three children, Sonya Harriman and her husband, Marvin, of Bucksport, Stephen Bowden and his wife, Lynn, of Bucksport, Brian Bowden and his wife, Pat, of Searsport; seven grandchildren, David Harriman and his friend, Denise, Jeff Harriman and his wife, Kelly, Timothy Harriman and his wife, Kris, Michael Harriman and his friend, Kathy, Nicole Gould and her husband, Michael, Leslie Russell, Gabriel Bowden and his friend, Erin, Brianya Bowden; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Philip Gross and his wife, Phyllis, of Orland; several nieces and nephews; many in-laws. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Merle in December of 2004; four brothers, Maynard, Russell, Earl “Buddy”, and Clifford “Toar” Gross. Visiting hours for family and friends will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Bucksport. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086-1240.
