PEMBROKE – Alicia Geraldine Sawyer, 87, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2006, after a brief illness. She was born in Pembroke, April 11, 1918, to Ernest and Myrtie (Sprague) Carter. Alicia grew up in the Milltown and Pembroke areas. After graduation, Alicia went to college studying business and education. After taking some time to travel abroad visiting France, Italy and Switzerland, she began working with small children. Alicia worked in Bethesda, Md. at the Presbyterian Church running a daycare center, retiring with 25 years of service. She moved back to the Pembroke area and married George Sawyer of Pembroke. It was here that Alicia enjoyed her retirement years with George and her loving younger sister, Agnes. Alicia was predeceased by her parents and her husband, George. Surviving are her sister, Agnes; a special cousin, Jim; several stepchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, two being Makayla and Kelsi, who brought her great joy in their visits to her. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at Clarkside Cemetery in Pembroke in the spring with Pastor Gary Kinney officiating. The family would greatly like to thank the wonderful nursing staff at Marshall’s Health Care in Machias for the care, support and kindness they have shown to Alicia during the time she spent with them.
