BANGOR – Althea B. Bates, 65, died unexpectedly Oct. 27, 2006, at her home. She was born Jan. 31, 1941, in Rumford, the daughter of Arlan and Leverne (Henderson) Freeman. She is survived by three daughters, Geraldine Bates of Bangor, Joyce Bates of Argyle and Cynthia and her husband, Shawn Phinney, of Bangor; one brother, Arlan Freeman Jr. and his wife, Bonnie, of Portland; one sister, Iona and her husband, Niles Nelson, of Bangor; four grandchildren, Phillip Bates and his wife, Christy, Marcy Bates, Amber Kimsey and Michael Kimsey Jr.; four stepgranddaughters, two great-granddaughters, several nieces and nephews; and her special dog, Honey. She will also be missed by her neighbors and her best friend, Sandy. A service of remembrance will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at Grace United Methodist Church, Bangor, with the Rev. Kathy Macedo, pastor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the church immediately after the service.
