PEABODY, Mass. – Alton “Lee” Gardner died peacefully Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, in the presence of his wife and children, at his Maine log cabin, 14 Rocky Point Road, Raymond. Lee was born March 7, 1929, in North Adams, Mass. His parents moved the family to Peabody, Mass., shortly thereafter. He served in the Army 1951-1953, then owned and operated Lee’s Painting, Rowley, Mass., where he lived and raised his family for nearly 20 years. Lee moved his family to Raymond in 1971 when he purchased the former Route 85 Camping Court, renamed it Kokatosi Campground, and operated it with his family until 1984, when he purchased land near the Windham Rotary for Lee’s Family Trailer Sales, which remains owned and operated by the Gardner family. He was a world traveler and an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and ATV-ing with his family. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Nancy Amero of Swampscott, Mass.; three sisters; his six children, Bonnie, Britt, Sam, Randy, Sheri and Scott; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Viewing will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Hall Funeral Home, Quaker Ridge Road, Casco. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Windham.
