ALBION – Alyce B. Higgins, 84, passed peacefully Tuesday, May 15, 2007, surrounded by her loving family at Maine General Medical Center, Waterville. She was born June 5, 1922, the daughter of Woodrow F. and Myrtle (Tinker) Brown of Dixmont. She was one of seven children, which include her other siblings, Paul, Perry, Floyd, Clifford, Barbara, and Wesley. She was a longtime resident of the Albion Community, and past member of Rebekah’s and the Albion Volunteer Firefighters Women’s Auxiliary. She worked many years at the Anderson Box Co. of Unity with her husband, the late Clyde C. Higgins, who passed March 17, 1972. Alyce and her family were featured on the cover of the Aug. 28, 1948, edition of the Saturday Evening Post, a historical portrait of her family at the Skowhegan State Fair. Alyce enjoyed watching her beloved Red Sox with a longtime friend and neighbor, Dan MacDonald, and was a huge fan of Johnny Damon. She always kept her candy dishes full, her refrigerator filled with beverages and her door always open for her many friends and family that visited. She listened with her heart and shared many great stories of years of the past with those she held dear to her heart. Alyce was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Clyde Higgins; brothers, Paul, Perry, Floyd, and Clifford Brown; as well as a longtime friend and companion, Meredith Spooner. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Richard and Rebecca Hamlin of Winslow; her son and daughter-in-law, Galen and Penny Higgins of Las Vegas; her granddaughter, Leslie Hamlin of Augusta; and her grandson, Terry Hamlin and his wife, Tara; along with her three great-grandsons, Alex, Ricky and Kendrick Hamlin, all of Winslow. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Marcho of Old Town; a brother, Wesley Brown of Bangor, and a special friend and sister, Evelyn Brown of Bucksport. Alyce has touched many people throughout her life with kindness, friendship, and love. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A special thanks to the staff on two central at Maine General Medical Center-Thayer Campus, as well as physicians Dr. Forrest West and Dr. Enrique Rivas for their exceptional care, kindness, and support. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19.
