MANSET – Anna L. Stanley, 86, died Sept. 22, 2006, at a Bar Harbor health care facility. She was born July 19, 1920, in New Sweden, the daughter of the late John Alfred and Hannah B. (Larson) Quist. She attended New Sweden and Caribou schools, graduating salutatorian of her class. Anna worked at Stinsons Canning Co., the Bar Harbor Club and retired from the Jackson Laboratory. She then, with the help of her daughters, opened a small gift and bakery shop named the G.A.R.A.G.E. Anna’s greatest joy was in children, grandchildren and many children, whom she baby sat for. Her new found freedom was when, at the age of 52, she received her drivers license. Anna was well known in her area for her cooking and sewing. She was a hard working woman and very proud of her Swedish heritage. Anna is survived by her daughters, Lorraine and husband, Allan Hitchcock, Beatrice and husband, John Desjarden, Nancy and husband, Sherman Stanley, Janet Stanley and companion, Gordon Granninoto and Cookie and husband, Dave Kelley; two sons, John Stanley and wife, Linda and Richard Stanley. Anna is also survived by 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm “Mack” Wayne Stanley; brothers, Sigward, Gunnar, Hjalmar, Axel, Hilding and Carl Quist; sister, Evelyn Peterson; a daughter, Joyce Stanley Mahler; and a son, Larry Stanley. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Mount Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor, with Pastor Blake Brown officiating.
