GRESHAM, Ore. – Arleen Mae Flewelling, 66, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, at Providence Portland Medical Center. Arleen was born May 5, 1939, in Oregon City, Ore., to Stephen Joseph and Helen Mae (Pelz) Werner. She was raised and educated in the Portland, Ore. area and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy, Portland, in 1957. She continued her education at the Providence School of Nursing and earned a nursing degree. She worked as a registered nurse in the labor and delivery ward of Legacy Emanuel Hospital & Health Center in Portland, Ore., for 40 years and assisted in the delivery of all her grandchildren. She retired in 2003. On Nov. 24, 1990, she married Charles Flewelling Sr. in Portland, Ore. They moved to Gresham, Ore. five years ago. Arleen was a member of Living Word Fellowship Church and helped in the church office. Arleen was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Rebecca Michelle Paine. Survivors include her husband, Charles of Gresham, Ore.; son, Todd Stephen Werner of Portland, Ore.; daughters, Deborah Phillips of Fairview Ore., Lisa Paine, of Portland, Ore., and Tamara Jones of Portland, Ore.; brother, Michael Joseph of Ocean Shores, Wash.; twin sister, Kathleen Mae Phelps of Milwaukie, Ore.; and four grandchildren. She is also survived by her stepsons, Charles Flewelling Jr. of Lacey, Wash. and Keith Flewelling of Gresham, Ore.; and stepdaughter, Katey (Flewelling) Card of Boring, Ore.; 10 stepgrandchildren and one great-stepgrandson. Funeral was held Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Living Word Fellowship Center, Boring, Ore. A graveside service was held that afternoon at 3 p.m., at Gethsemani Cemetary, Portland, Ore. Memorial contributions can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
