NEWPORT – Beverly J. Friend, 78, died Oct. 28, 2006, at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born May 9, 1928, in Corinna, daughter of Frederic and Marion (Frees) Perkins. She graduated from Oak Grove Academy, Vassalboro, and attended Wheelock College, Boston. Beverly was active in community affairs, including the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Newport Recreation Committee, and the Newport Public Library. Bev will always be remembered by her friends and family for her wonderful humor and her incredible cooking. She is survived by her husband, Peter C. Friend of Newport; a son and his wife, Cooper F. and Meredith Friend of Ellsworth; a daughter and her husband, Anne and Bill Pidgeon of Milbridge; three grandchildren, Christopher P. Hardiman and his wife, Terri, of New Gloucester, Megan Hildebrand and her husband, Kyle, of Ellsworth and Cooper P. Friend of Ellsworth; and a great-grandson, Jack P. Hardiman of New Gloucester. In addition to her family, Bev will be missed by many special friends. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at High Street Congregational Church, Newport, with Pastor Al Worden officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Newport.
