NEWPORT – Buren D. Rich, 78, died July 29, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Aug. 20, 1925, at Newport, a son of Stelmer and Lilla (Foss) Rich. He graduated from Newport High School, Class of 1943, and served in U.S. Army during World War II. Buren had been a custodian for the Newport school department. He attended Barber school and later owned and operated his own barber shop in Unity for more than 25 years. He is survived by his wife, Norma of Newport; a daughter, Linda and husband, Michael McNally, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two step-daughters, Marcia and Robert Johnston of Palmyra, and Melissa Wilkins of Pittsfield; three step sons, Larry Teeney of Burnham, Bradley Cunningham of Woodstock, N.H., and Michael Cunningham of San Antonio, Texas; 11 step grandchildren; one great-grandchild; cousins, nieces and nephews. Buren was predeceased by a brother, Quinn Rich; and a sister, Althea Willis. He will also be sadly missed by his beloved dog, Muggs. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Newport, with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating.
