PEMBROKE – C. Neal Cross, 70, formerly of Whitman, Mass. and Great Pond, died Monday, Oct.25, 2004, at Quincy Medical Center after a period of failing health. He was husband of Sandra (Harris) Cross. Born and raised in Whitman, Mass., son of the late Robert and Esther (Snow) Cross. He was a graduate of Whitman High School. After 30 years, working as a boat builder for Boston Whaler in Rockland, he retired and moved to Great Pond where he made his home for the past 18 years, and where he was the mayor, fire warden, sexton and the warden of the polls. He also belonged to the Union River Stamp Club in Maine and the Whitman Stamp Clubs, while living in Whitman, Mass. He was honorably discharged after serving in the U.S. Army. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Klaus Cross of Madison, Wis., Gerd Cross of Pembroke, and Diane Baker of Halifax; two stepchildren, Alan Thompson Jr. of Schenectady, N.Y, and Monica Delima of Hollywood, Fla.; a brother, Russell Cross of Arizona; a sister, Carol Derr of Lorida, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Arnold Cross. A funeral will be 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street, Whitman, Mass. The Rev. Gordon Postill will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date.
