BARING – Carl A. Lewis, 82, died Thursday, May 5, 2005, at home with his family by his side. Carl was born March 17, 1923, in Sussex, N.B., Canada, son of the late Clarence and Mary (McCoubrey) Lewis. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. On July 18, 1941, he married Eileen Moreside in Milltown. Carl was an active member of the Baring Baptist Church, a lifetime member of Boyd-Smith Post No. 9779 VFW in Calais, and the Baring Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Chief for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at Grand Lake Stream, yard work, and new cars. Carl will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was predeceased by his sister, Berla Dart. Surviving are his wife of more than 63 years, Eileen Lewis; five children, Lawrence Lewis and his wife, Sharon A., of Alexander, James Lewis and his wife, Sharon E., of Charlotte, Carlene Eaton and her husband, Robert, of East Hartford, Conn., Janet Leighton and her husband, Charles, of Baileyville, and Dale Lewis and his wife, April, of Baileyville; 8 grandchildren, David, Dawn, Lisa, Marilyn, Charles, James Robert, James Michael, and Tracy; a stepgranddaughter, Heather, eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Norma Farrar and her husband, Guy, of Canton, Conn.; a special nephew, Cecil Moreside and his wife, Irene, of Calais; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 12-2 p.m. Monday, May 9, at Baring Baptist Church, Front Street, Baring, from at which time a funeral service will be conducted with Pastor Bob Hinton officiating. Burial will follow in Baring Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Baring Baptist Church, Front St., Baring, ME 04694.
