HANCOCK – Gale L. McMurtry died May 2, 2005, at an Ellsworth hospital after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 1, 1935, in Framingham, Mass., the daughter of Ruth and Dexter Lowe. She is survived by her three children and their families; daughter, Wendy Sloban of Merrimac, Mass., husband, Fred, and grandchildren, Jonathan and Ashley; son, John “Doug” McMurtry of Saco; and her daughter, Cathleen Lucier of Hancock and her partner, Gary Durkee of Steuben; and granddaughter, Hollie Hichborn of Hancock and her husband, John, who are expecting her first great-grandchild in July. She is also survived by her best friend of 40 years, Grace Sheridan of Cutler. She was predeceased by her parents and sister, Elaine Lowe. She will be sadly missed by all of us, especially her cat, Rufus, who was her constant companion for six years. Per her wishes, there will be no funeral services, A memorial service will be held at a later date for friends and family.
