CAMDEN – Carmen Erwin Wilder, 96, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Jed Prouty Assisted Living Center in Bucksport. Born Nov. 26, 1907, in Moira, N.Y., she was the daughter of Arthur D. and Florence (Drake) Erwin. In 1938, she married Frederick Franklin Wilder. For many years, Mrs. Wilder worked as a teacher in public and private schools in New York state. After retiring, she moved to Maine where she served for 10 years as a member of Sen. George Mitchell’s staff in his Rockland office. She was a communicant at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Camden, a member of the American University Women’s Association, and a member of the Camden Shakespeare Society. Surviving is her son, Erwin F. Wilder and his wife, Dorrie, of Northport; a daughter, Mary Florence Wilder of Hancock; one granddaughter, Sarah Wilder of Northport; a grandson, Eric Prud’hommeaux of Somerville, Mass.; and many beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick F. Wilder, who died in 1969; and a sister, Ruth E. Barkley. Calling hours will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at the Robert E. Laite Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St., Camden. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Camden with the Rev. Norman Catir officiating. Interment will be held in Hannibal, N.Y.
