ELLSWORTH – Carolyn R. Grant, 71, went to be with her Lord on Dec. 13, 2003, after a 13-year battle with leukemia. She was born March 5, 1932, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of Rudolph and Christine (Mckay) Ryder. She attended schools in Lamoine and Bar Harbor and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1949. She married Frederick Grant who has been a loving and devoted husband for more than 54 years. Together they raised three sons and a daughter. She enjoyed crocheting and crafts and at one time had her own craft shop in her home. Most of all, she enjoyed cooking, especially breads and sweets of all kinds. At one time she was a substitute cook at all three schools in Ellsworth as well as in Trenton. She is survived by her beloved husband, Frederick Grant; three sons, David Grant and his wife, Cindy, of Augusta, Paul Grant and his wife, Lisa, and Kenneth Grant and his wife, Jennifer; a daughter, Christine Reiss and a dear friend, Conrad McNaughton, all of Ellsworth; seven grandchildren, Michelle and Angeline Grant of Bar Harbor, Sgt. Kirk Grant of Korea, Aaron, Morgan, Miranda and Megan Grant, all of Ellsworth; one brother, George Ryder and his wife, Audrey; two sisters, Judy Brooks and her husband, James, and Anne Dell Ramsey, all of Portsmouth, Va.; a sister-in-law, Bertha Grant of Bangor; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Bill and Bob; and a grandson, Matthew. Friends are invited to visit 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Jordan Funeral Home, 133 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Barry Blackstone officiating. Spring interment will be at Birch Grove Cemetery, Ellsworth.
