BUCKSPORT – Caroline Crooker, 75, of Central Street, passed away Feb. 24, 2008, in the family home where she was born. She was the seventh child of John Russell Crooker and Pearl Clay Crooker. Her parents operated the John C. Crooker Insurance Agency in Bucksport for many years. Caroline graduated from Bucksport High School then moved to New York City, where she worked as a transcriptionist. She returned home to join the family business in 1953. She was a loving aunt to the many children of her siblings. Over the years, she extended her role as aunt to encompass her personal and professional life and became know simply and lovingly as Auntie C. Caroline referred to herself as “just a country girl,” but she gave new meaning to the term through her commitment to honesty and humor. She enjoyed engaging people in a way that resulted in every interaction becoming personal, whether she was dealing with someone at the State House or her physician or family. Caroline served as registrar of voters for Bucksport for many years. She was a well-respected business woman who contributed greatly to the well being of the community. She loved animals and helped establish an organization which funded the neutering and spaying of cats and dogs. Caroline loved her work, her community and golf. Ms. Crooker is survived by her loving nieces, Carol Versa Jones Conners, Karen Crooker Jones of Massachusetts, Brenda Anderson Anyzeski, Cathy Anderson Hall of Florida and Christine Crooker of Missouri; nephews, Everett Boober and his wife, Gail, of Maryland, John Craig and his wife, Sue Ann, of Bucksport, Michael Jones of Nevada, Russell Jones and his wife, Marianne, of Oklahoma, William Boober of Bangor, Brian Jones and his wife, Marilyn, of Bucksport, John Crooker III of Missouri and John Anderson Jr. and wife, Suzie, of Colorado. She also leaves her close personal friends, Dorothy Madden of California, Julia Remick, Donna Smith, Barbara and Darrel Mitchell, who were a great support and joy to her in her last years. Family and friends will have a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to Buck Memorial Library Restoration Fund, P.O. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
