SOUTHWEST HARBOR Katheryn Irene Murphy, 65, passed away Feb. 25, 2008, surrounded by her family and friends after a brief battle with cancer, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Jan. 3, 1943, in Bar Harbor, to Edwin and Flora (Robinson) Seavey. Katheryn attended Pemetic High School and accomplished many things in her life. In addition to being a devoted mother to her four children, she cared for many people at Sonogee. She started her own business cleaning cottages and she and her husband did home building, remodeling and care taking. She was also the head cook at Pemetic Elementary School for more than 10 years. Neil and Katheryn had the wonderful opportunity to share some great times together traveling to Branson, Mo., on cruises, and recently to Sanibel Island, Fla., and Disney, one of her most favorite places, along with four generations of her family. If Katheryn had any free time she loved to sew, paint and pick up shells and rocks by the sea. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Ralph McNeil Murphy Jr.; their four sons and their families, Ralph Murphy III and wife, Patricia, Kevin Murphy and wife, Beth, all of Lamoine, Dwayne Murphy of Bangor and Dean Murphy and wife, Kimberly, of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Nicole Murphy, Terri Murphy, Tyler Murphy, Jared Murphy, Tasha Fletcher and husband, Mike, Melissa Cox and husband, Zachary, Chris Murphy, Derek Murphy, Dustin Murphy and Shawn Murphy; two great-great-grandchildren, Amber and Micah; a sister, Marion Kelley; and brother, Austin “Buddy” Seavey, both of Seal Cove. She was predeceased by her parents; a son, Gary Wayne; and three brothers, Billy, Everett and Kenneth Seavey. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 29, at Tremont Congregational Church with the Rev. Wayne Buchanan officiating. A private burial will be in the spring.
