EASTPORT – Catherine A. (Lee) Miliano, 78, died Sept. 3, 2007, at Maine General Medical Center, Augusta, after a period of declining health. She was born Dec. 11, 1928, in Eastport, the daughter of George and Frances (Tooze) Lee. She graduated from Shead Memorial High School, in 1946 and married Joseph F. Miliano, in 1950. Catherine held various jobs in Eastport throughout the years, including telephone operator and office worker at the Guilford Mill Store. Her last job before full retirement was librarian at Peavey Memorial Library, where she loved visiting with the patrons. She had a special fondness for the children who visited the library. Catherine spent most of her life in Eastport, but in her later years was forced to move into assisted living, first in Calais and most recently at The Woodlands, Hallowell, where she resided at the time of her death. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Eastport and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hallowell. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Circle Daughters of Isabella for more than 50 years. Catherine was predeceased by her parents; and her husband, Joseph. She is survived by her six children, Frances of Farmingdale, Joseph and his wife, Karen, of Cornish, John and his wife, Jan, of Gorham, Peter and his wife, Yasumi, of Yokohama, Japan, Stephen and his wife, Eileen, of San Antonio, and Nancy James and her husband, John, of Princeton; grandchildren, Mark, Maria, Emily, Anastasia, Natalie, Michael, Justin, Holly, Thomas and Andrew; her sister, Pauline Meyer of Florida; special cousin, Jean McCawley of Quincy, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves friends that were very dear to her, Jill, Cathie, Madonna, Ruth, Eleanor, Laura, Judith, Fern and others too numerous to mention…you know who you are. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Mays Funeral Home – Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport, with the Daughters of Isabella leading the rosary 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Washington Street, Eastport, by Father Eugene Gaffey. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Eastport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Catherine’s memory to St. Joseph Church, 51 Washington St., Eastport, ME 04631.
