ISLAND FALLS – Neil Alton Glidden, 77, died Sept. 4, 2007, formerly of Coopers Mills, died unexpectedly from a short illness Sept. xx, 2007, surrounded by loved ones. He was born July 12, 1930, in Coopers Mills (Whitefield), the son of Raymond and Bessie Lillian Brann Glidden. He grew up in Coopers Mills and was a graduate of Cony High School, Class of 1950. He was employed for the State Highway Department in Augusta and at the Newberg (Ore.) Post Office. In 1972, he graduated from Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute as a Licensed Practical Nurse. He worked at Togus Veteran’s Administration and for Veteran’s Administration, Reno, Nev., as a Licensed Practical Nurse. In 1992, Neil was forced to retire due to failing health. He was a member of the South Jefferson Baptist Church, and a parishioner of Wesleyan Church, Crystal. He was a former member of the Arlington Grange, North Whitefield; member of the Oakfield Grange, Oakfield; and the Aroostook Pamona Grange. He loved going to country music jams. The light of his life was his children and grandchildren. He was an avid reader, liked semi classical music, and was a fantastic cook who was very inventive and could create gourmet meals without a recipe. He had a green thumb and enjoyed raising his vegetable gardens. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was predeceased by his wife, Janet Glidden Green, in 1988; and brother, Richard Glidden; and three half brothers, Dewey Glidden and Raymond and Robert Callahan. Survivors include his partner, Terrance Dwyer of Island Falls; daughters, Dena Ford and her husband, Steven, of Vancouver, Wash., Janneil Brown of Newberg, Ore.; sons, Kermit Glidden of Coopers Mills, Shawn Glidden of Newberg, Ore., Jeffrey Glidden and his wife, Tammy, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters, Geraldine Hibbert of Augusta, Lucille Rollins of Hallowell; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins; and special lifelong friends, Donald and Frances Gould of Whitefield. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Sand Hill Cemetery, Somer-ville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Neil’s memory to your local humane society. Arrangements are entrusted to Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
