WINTER HARBOR – Chandler F. Williams Sr., 75, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at his home in Winter Harbor. He was born Aug. 7, 1928, in Sullivan, the son of Harold and Ella (Havey) Williams. Chandler served in the Army and C.I.D. for 24 years, retiring in 1969 as a Chief Warrant Officer. He was a veteran of World War II, beginning when he was only 14, and also the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Chandler was a recipient of numerous awards and medals, including the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Service Cross. Following his retirement, Chandler worked for the state of Maine as a fraud investigator for 20 years. He was a member of David Hooper Lodge AF & AM in Sullivan, and was a past president of the Winter Harbor Historical Society. Chandler was also a past selectman for the town of Sullivan. For many years, he owned a company called Four Seasons, Inc. at Tunk Lake in Sullivan, where his heart will always be. Chandler is survived by his wife of 25 years, Betty L. (Bickford) Williams of Winter Harbor; three children, Harold Williams and Dr. Betsy Williams, both of New Mexico and his beloved son, Chandler F. Williams Jr. of Winter Harbor and New York; a brother, Montgomery Williams of Holiday, Fla.; a sister, Lois Young of Gouldsboro; two special sisters-in-law, Linda Whitney and Dolores Basher, both of Winter Harbor; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be missed by special friends, Clifford and Judy Albee. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Williams. Graveside funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at the Blaisdell Cemetery in North Sullivan with pastor Bernard Arsenault officiating.
