BANGOR – Charlene H. Cleveland, 79, beloved wife and best friend of Errol R. Cleveland, died peacefully June 16, 2006, at her home. She was born Oct. 11, 1926, in Bradford, the daughter of Norman H. and Isabell (Noyes) Huntington. Charlene attended school in Bradford and Dover-Foxcroft and was a 1945 honor student of Foxcroft Academy. She was a member of the Independent Grange No. 77 of Bradford where she was chaplain when they conferred State Degrees in Augusta. She was a former member of the Bradford United Methodist Church, the United Baptist Church in Dover-Foxcroft and was a member of Pilgrim Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Bangor. She was a member of Pilgrim Ladies for many years and the Bangor Couples Club. Before her marriage in 1946, she was employed in Dover-Foxcroft by the District Nursing Association of the State Bureau of Health. After her marriage and move to Bangor, she was employed for 22 years by the Travelers Insurance Co. and 19 years by the University of Maine, where in 1991, she received an award for Outstanding Service to the university from which she retired in 1997. Charlene was a devoted wife, a loving mother, adoring grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed church, family, friends, camping and traveling. In addition to her loving husband of 60 years, Errol, she is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Gibbons and husband, Steven, of Camden; a son, Lewis Cleveland of Bangor; a brother, William Huntington and wife, Elizabeth, of Dover-Foxcroft; three grandsons, Steven Jay and Matthew David Gibbons, both of Camden and Tyler Lewis Cleveland of Bangor: a great-granddaughter, Althea Mae Gibbons of Camden; three stepgrandchildren; four great-stepgrandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends are invited to visit with the family 5-8 p.m. Monday, June 19, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, with the Rev. Brian Nolder, pastor of the Pilgrim Orthodox Presbyterian Church, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith, Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the service.
