PRESQUE ISLE – “Basil” Wolverton, 84, passed away peacefully Monday morning July 24, 2006, at his home. He was born Nov. 15, 1921, in Easton, the son of Percy and Alberta (Shaw) Wolverton. Basil farmed in Easton for many years with his brother, Clarence. He later owned and operated Fairmount Store in Fort Fairfield. Upon retiring, he and his wife, Jean moved to Presque Isle, where they have resided for the past 19 years. He was a veteran of World War II having served in Germany. He was a communicant of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Presque Isle. He is survived by his wife, Jean (Wilson) Wolverton of Presque Isle; a brother, Robert and his wife, Helen, of South Windsor, Conn.; two sisters, Helen Hansen of Tulsa, Okla. and Betty Everett of Yarmouth; a sister-in-law, Inez Wolverton of Bangor; and many nieces and nephews. Basil was predeceased by two brothers, Harold and his wife, Margaret, and Clarence; two sisters, Doris Smith and her husband, Norman and Ella Yelland and her husband, Bud; and brothers-in-law, Robert Everett and Leonard Hansen. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 28, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Second Street, Presque Isle, with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Interment will be at Estes Park Cemetery, Easton. In lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church Endowment Fund, P.O.
