BLUE HILL – Charles Francis Torrey, 96, died Feb. 23, 2007, in Penobscot. He was born Dec. 10, 1910, in Blue Hill, the son of Harvey E. and Annie B. (Chapman) Torrey. Charles served in the U.S. Army during World War II in France. He was an avid hunter. He lobster fished and gill netted throughout his entire life. He also worked for the Allen Family as a woodsman and, for the last several years, worked as a caretaker for the Alida Camp Estate. Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Marilyn J. (Drew) Torrey of Blue Hill; one son, Jeff Torrey and wife, Elizabeth, of Penobscot; two brothers, Willard “Bill” Torrey of Blue Hill and Thorton “Bud” Torrey and wife, Doris, of Burlington, Vt.; three sisters; Fausta and her husband, Gordon Emerson, of Blue Hill, Alice Donavan of New Hampshire and Edna Eaton of Vermont; four grandchildren, Chris and Daniel, and their mother, Bonnie, Kaiya and Meredith, and their mother, Janet Torrey; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Keith Torrey; and three sisters, Dorothy Pucci, Muriel Gibbs and Frances Sprague. Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
