HARRINGTON – Chester Smith, 87, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at an Ellsworth healthcare facility. He was born March 18, 1919, in Harrington, the son of the late Walter and Alice (Stanhope) Smith. Mr. Smith was educated in the Harrington school system. He worked for Bethlehem Steel as a merchant marine in the Great Lakes region retiring after 42 years of service in 1980. He shared 66 years of marriage with Christine (Garnett) Smith. In addition to his wife, family members include a son, Paul Smith and his wife, Diane, of Berlin, N.H. and their children, Lindsay of Stratham, N.H., Brad of Portland and Laura of Harrington; a daughter, Helena McMillan and her husband, Bill, of Groveland, Calif. and their children, Marc of Dublin, Calif., Michael of Gilbert, Ariz. and Karen of Fremont, Calif.; three great-grandchildren of Arizona; a sister, Edith Stanwood of Milford; and a brother, Malcolm Smith of Harrington. Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Faith United Methodist Church, 444 Route 1, Columbia. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Harrington.
