BANGOR – Clara Charlene Everett, 96, died Dec. 2, 2007, at an Orono health care facility. She was born Jan. 29, 1911, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Alfred and Bessie (Watt) McPherson. Clara came to Bangor to attend and graduate from the Gilman Business School. She was the owner and operator of State Street Car Wash for many years. Throughout her marriage she helped her husband, Carl, as a bookkeeper for his various businesses. Clara was a member and past president of Altrusa International, Bangor Club and the BPW Club. She enjoyed her involvement with the Tuscan Chapter No. 148 Order of Eastern Star, Bangor, where she was a past worthy matron and the Wmiodosus Club, now the Fun and Friendship Club. Clara was a member of Hammond Street Congregational Church. She volunteered for the Ronald McDonald House, the Maine Veterans’ Home and for Bangor District Nursing. There are fond memories of cribbage and bridge games with her many friends. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Home Health and Hospice of St. Joseph and Meadow Brook Commons at Dirigo Pines for the wonderful, compassionate care they gave Clara. She is survived by her children, Arthur Everett and companion, Ellen, of Venice, Fla., Joyce Smith of Tampa, Fla., Susan Everett and husband, Al Ross, of Veazie; a daughter-in-law, Carol Everett of Bangor; grandchildren, Scott and Shawn Smith, Raena and Craig Everett, Cindy Drake and Bruce Everett; 10 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Tom. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl; a son, Richard; and a brother, Eugene McPherson. Services will be private for the family. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
