WOODLAND and CARIBOU Clarice A. Johnston 60, died May 20, 2004, at Presque Isle, following a courageous battle against cancer. She was born June 22, 1943, in Caribou, the daughter of Clairmond and Pearl (Bell) Belanger. She was a graduate of Caribou High School and for a time was employed by the Swiss Steam Laundry in Connecticut. Upon returning to Caribou, she was employed by Potato Service and then for many years, she assisted her husband in the operation of Johnston’s Hot Topping. She was a faithful member of the Christian Life Assembly as well as the Abundant Life Mission, where she was active in many church activities and was a member of Women Aglow. Clarice loved the outdoors and working in her flower garden. Surviving in addition to her husband, Rafe Johnston of Woodland are her parents, Clairmond and Pearl Belanger of Caribou; one son, David Leavitt Jr. and his wife, Cathy, of Woodland; three stepsons, Dwayne Johnston and his wife, Candace, of Florida, Dana Johnston and his wife, Cindy, of Caribou and Jeffrey Johnston of Massachusetts; one stepdaughter, Delores Lane and her husband, Kurt, of Woodland; one brother and sister-in-law, Clair and Tonya Belanger of Presque Isle; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Pauline and David Soucier of Arizona, Donna and Ray Doucette of Caribou, Brenda and Loren Sperrey Sr. of Maryland and Carol and Jack Doody of Washburn; two grandchildren, Ryan and Janell; and 8 stepgrandchildren, Candice, Jacob, Danielle, Melissa, Heather, Corey, Amy and Christa; many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Johnston was predeceased by a daughter, Lorie Ann Leavitt; and her step-grandson, Donald Lane. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2004, from the Caribou Assembly of God with the Rev. Rennie Tichnor, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
