BANGOR – Dorothy Louise Irwin, 77, died May 20, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 28, 1927, in Portland, the daughter of Wallace and Alberta (Peterson) Spiller. Dorothy graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School and the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston as a registered nurse where she met Carl, her husband of 51 years. She was a sustaining member and past president of the Junior League in Bangor. Dorothy was involved in the Shakespeare Club, Symphony Women, and several other community organizations. Her family was her life and she was very proud of her children and her loving grandchildren. She is survived by six children, Douglas W. Irwin and wife, Bonnie, and their children, Sam, Andrew, Elizabeth, and Emily, and a recent grandchild, Liam, of Concord, Mass.; Carleen A. Irwin of Newton, Mass.; Jeffrey W. Irwin, of San Pablo, Calif.; William S. Irwin, and friend, Monica Cameron, and children, Meghan and Holly, and their mother and special caregiver to Dorothy, Becky Irwin; Jeannine L. Biren, and husband, David, and their children, Christopher and Brandy of New Port Richey, Fla.; C. Randolph Irwin and wife, Theresa, and their children, Stephanie, Kerri, and Christian, of Ashby, Mass.; a sister, Marjorie Crockett, of Standish, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Carl W. Irwin MD, in 2000; four brothers; and a sister. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, May 22, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, May 23, with the Rev. Dr. Rex Garrett, Director of Chaplaincy of Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
