PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Clifford W. Tingley, passed away Jan. 16, 2005, at his home in Florida. He was born July 30, 1914, in Littleton, the son of Roscoe and Mary (Brown) Tingley. Dad enjoyed a full and happy life with his wife, Ruth, for 67 years. Together they and Clifford’s brothers owned and operated “Tingley Bros. Garage” and the “Toot and Tell” restaurant in Houlton, for 34 years. Family, business and fun were important to Dad. He always enjoyed that both he and Ruth had many family members nearby in Houlton for family gatherings. He and Mom started other businesses such as the “Rusty Nail” craft shop and the “Houlton Car Wash”. One of Dad’s biggest thrills was getting the motorcycle he always wanted at age 55. He talked Mom into getting her own bike as well and at age 69, they were off to Idaho from Maine on their bikes. In their retirement, they traveled to Europe, Alaska and Hawaii and then moved to Florida to live. Clifford was predeceased by his wife, Ruth, who passed away on Nov. 10, 2004, and is survived by his children, son, Stanwood and his wife, Janice, of Carrabassett, daughter, Carolyn Schultz and her husband, Walt, of Brewer and son, Robert and his wife, Marie, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; grandchildren, Kelly, Tracy, Leanne, Terri, Randy, Jessi and Joanna, also several great-grandchildren. Clifford is survived by his brother, Cedric and predeceased by his brothers, Hanford, Burton and Roscoe Jr. A burial service and celebration of their lives will be held for both Clifford and Ruth in Carrabassett Valley, in June, at a date to be announced.
